(Item #25, Art - Paintings)

Original Acrylic On Canvas (54"W x43"H). Drissia Abid is a Moroccan-Canadian artist living in Vancouver who paints brightly-coloured images. At an early age, Drissia was encouraged to study art because she had an amazing understanding of colour and design. She immersed herself in her art and soon became an inspiration to others. Nothing gave her more happiness than art-making. Drissia always dreamed of changing the world by helping others, which she seeks to do now through her paintings and her work in the Nursing profession. Impressionist-Contemporary Cubism is a phrase that might be used to describe her work. She can also be classified as Expressionist, as the work is not usually descriptive of reality but is intended to touch the soul of the viewers. As an extensive traveler, Drissia brings the colors and patterns of exotic lands into her work. Favourite motifs are doves of peace, flowers, dancers and musicians celebrating life with their musical instruments. Drissia has been commissioned to do numerous portraits and paintings for private collectors. Her paintings can be seen in homes throughout the world. James Manningís artistic training included work towards his B.F.A. at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver, British Columbia. Having travelled to Europe numerous times, he was heavily influenced by ancient Italian frescoes of both the Roman and Renaissance periods. The images were then painted with translucent glazes allowing the under-painting and distressed surfaces to show through, giving a fine aged patina. James had showings in galleries in Atlanta, New York, San Francisco and Vancouver before he died suddenly of a brain hemorrhage on December 3rd, 1997, at the age of 37.

(Item #8, Art - Paintings)

Framed oil on canvas (24"W x 18"H) by artist Paul Paquette, from the Tantalus Range, north of Whistler. Paul Paquette, born in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland in 1962, moved to Montreal in 1964, Winnipeg in 1970, and finally to Vancouver six years later. In his teens, Paul took an interest in photography, filmmaking and woodworking. However, it was not until after his graduation from high school that he began to paint, attending drop-in life drawing classes at the Federation of Canadian Artists. He attended regular classes and seminars given by artists such as Alan Edwards, Harry Hiene, Kiff Holland, Robert Genn, and Elizabeth Smily. In 1993, Paul explored the waters of Southern BC for 3 years in his 30í sailboat. His paintings of this period often reflect the many shapes and moods of the coast and the Gulf Islands. However, living on a boat eventually proved to be impractical. Paul moved back to land, into a condo in Vancouver's West End - reuniting his home and studio. Throughout the 90's, Paul built strong friendships with art collectors and agents. Their enthusiastic support and ongoing promotion of his work led to a steadily increasing stream of sales and commissions. By 2000, Paul began exhibiting his works in commercial BC galleries, which further increased his work's exposure. Paul is represented in galleries in Victoria, Vancouver, Whistler, and Calgary. His works are displayed in many corporate collections such as Haywood Securities, Clark Wilson, Bull Housser Tupper, and Odlum Brown.

Rare Berry Picking Basket
(Item #109, Art - Other)

Add this rare, "Birch Bark Berry Picking Basket" to your collection. Made from birch bark, spruce root, moose hide, and dyed porcupine quills this fabulous basket is created by Karen Kotchea. Taking the traditional skills she learned at her motherís knee and honoring them with modern day interpretations she is one of the very few artisans still working with moose tufting. Her work was very recently part of a show held at Spirit Wrestler Gallery in Vancouver. Working with natural materials, Karen is as immersed in the preparation of her materials as she is in the production of the pieces. For quillwork, she must find, clean, sort and dry each quill. For bark work, she must search to find just the right piece that is both leathery and light enough to allow the quillwork to stand out. She also collects roots and willow ñ often spending three to four weeks stocking up on these natural supplies so she can spend the winter inside creating. Italian Whopper
(Item #169, Wines & Spirits)

Celebrate that special occasion with a magnum of classic Tuscan red wine. Brunello di Montalcino was Italy`s first wine to be accorded D.O.C.G. status, a testament to its aristocracy, balance and fabulous proclivity for aging. Under the direction of Banfi`s master winemakers, the Sangiovese grapes are transformed into a remarkable world-class wine, perhaps the most respected red of Italy. Aged for a total of up to four years, including a minimum of two years in oak barrels, Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino is a wine of robust character. It possesses a rich garnet color, and a depth, complexity and opulence that is softened by an elegant, lingering aftertaste. This extremely rare piece created using Moose hair and Caribou hair tuftings are a traditional form of decoration used by most Northern Indians. The craft had all but been forgotten until a few years ago. The hair should be left on the hide and cut into small pieces then dried. It is then ready for dyeing. A small bundle of hair is cut off and a stitch is made around the hair and pulled tight. The hair is then sculpted with scissors to create a very beautiful and unique picture.

This Double Magnum, Burrowing Owl, 2006, Cabernet Sauvignon is creating a tremendous buzz in the vinophile community! Beppi Crosariol of The Globe and Mail asks "Is this Canada's greatest cabernet?" He goes on to say, that while tasting this wine, which just won double gold at the All Canadian Wine Championships, ìI had one of those I-can't-believe-it's-Canadian moments. If it was not the best cab in the land produced in 2006, it's close. Certainly it's better than some Napa Cabs costing twice as much." Axilar Moonrise
(Item #148, Art - Prints)

Framed, matted and signed artist proof (24" W x 24" H) #1/15 abstracted realism, by Joni Mitchell. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own something created by one if the most important musical figures of our time! Joni's comments from the StarArt book: "'Axilar Moonrise' is a dramatization and expansion on a profound moment of friendship and closeness between a friend and me. There's a sun and a moon in it to represent the passing of a period of time. There's a metamorphosis of a woman figure, who I guess is me, either dissolving into the foliage, or coming out of it, but showing a sense of oneness with nature. The attitude of the lowest figure, with its arms outstretched, is a kind of all embracing surrender and humility in the face of a moment. Then, with the two figures that overlap, there's a sense of a secret being shared, or something whispered in the ear and the leaning of one figure to hear it." Think of Joni Mitchell and you think primarily of her incredible career as a singer, songwriter, musical innovator and trailblazer. Much has been written and discussed of her musical career - much less so of her life as a fabulous painter.
