A Monster Jazz Event!
Coast
Capital Jazzilla – A Monster Jazz Event
is a phenomenal showcase of talent featuring internationally
renowned touring artist Jennifer Scott, three-time Juno
nominee Kate Hammett-Vaughan, and Juno and National
Jazz Award Nominee Karin Plato. An integral part of
some of the San Francisco Bay Area's leading bands,
Kristin Strom and Scott Sorkin,
will amaze and delight, and the audience is sure to be wowed
by Canadian jazz veteran, Judy Walchuk.
The
musical group August combines four award-winning
recording artists & singer songwriters: Beverley Elliott, Rae
Armour, Meg Tennant & Linda Kidder who will be performing an
original song from their newly released CD, The Sweetest Day.
Also on the bill is Steve Maddock, who was featured in
guest appearances with both Vancouver Chamber Choir and Chor
Leoni Men's Choir and is currently starring as “the beast” in
Beauty and the Beast at the Stanley Theatre. West Coast Music
Award nominee Leora
Cashe, who will be
releasing a brand new CD, “Another Side Now – The Songs of
Joni Mitchell,” to coincide with this years event and one of
Vancouver’s “smoothest” crooners, Don Stewart, will
enchant the audience once again.
The
formidable and sexy Alita Dupray will grace the stage
of the River Rock Show Theatre, also returning to this year’s
production, “busy”, sultry jazzy-pop singer Coco Love
Alcorn, and “one of our city’s best young singers,”
Matthew Smith will perform. Hailed as “one of the world’s
finest young jazz composers and vocalists” inspired vocalist
Melody Diachun will
be featured and rounding out the line-up are long-time
Vancouver favourites June Katz, and the multi talented
Tom Arntzen!
Backed
by Musical Director Miles Black on keyboards, Rene
Worst on bass, Tom Keenleyside on Sax and Graham
Boyle on drums, each performer will sing one piece
specially selected for the evening. And like the line-up
itself, the repertoire highlights the diversity of Vancouver’s
jazz scene; it ranges from well-known classics to lesser-known
standards to original numbers by artists like Alcorn and
August – all carefully sequenced to make for a captivating
evening of entertainment. |
